Janel Grant Advocates for NDA Reform and Survivor Protections at Connecticut State Capitol
02/20/2026Hurwitz Sagarin & Slossberg client Janel Grant spoke at the Connecticut State Capitol on February 19th, 2026, joining fellow survivors, advocates, and legislators calling for reforms to protect survivors of sexual violence.
The event, hosted by the Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence, focused on two legislative efforts: codifying the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) into Connecticut law and reforming non-disclosure agreement laws that silence survivors.
Speaking about the systematic impact of NDAs that protect institutions over individuals, Ms. Grant stated:
"Workplace safety depends on transparency. When employees cannot speak, patterns can't be seen. When patterns can't be seen, they can't be stopped…No workplace should become safer for the institution than the people inside of it."
The event brought together survivors, advocates, and policymakers urging the Connecticut legislature to take action on reforms that will strengthen protections for survivors. In attendance were Senators Eleni Kavros DeGraw, Cathy Osten, Julie Kushner, Mae Flexer, and Representative Matthew Blumenthal.
HS&S partner Erica Nolan and Associate Julie Pinette stood by Janel Grant as she appealed to legislators and the public.
