HS&S Named a Finalist for New England Litigation Department of the Year

The Cases That Got Us Here
Borozny v. Pratt & Whitney
For nearly a decade, thousands of aerospace engineers and skilled technical workers had their wages held down by agreements among the companies that employed them not to hire one another's people. The workers had no idea. The arrangements were concealed by design. HS&S was retained by the first plaintiff, investigated the claim, and filed the first civil case in the country on that conduct. It settled in 2025 for $60.5 million, one of the largest antitrust recoveries in the history of the District of Connecticut.
Ridenhour v. Stone Academy
In February 2023, Stone Academy closed its three Connecticut campuses without warning. Nearly a thousand students, many of them from lower-income backgrounds who had taken on serious debt to become licensed practical nurses, were left with worthless credits and nothing to show for it. HS&S took the case on full contingency and secured a $5 million class settlement. Then the firm went to the legislature and won expanded refund eligibility and access to student loan forgiveness, because a settlement check alone was never going to make these students whole.
Babani v. Blasius
A former partner in a Stratford car dealership sued the business and its two owners for more than $1 million in profits, years after he had stopped working there. The case turned on a question Connecticut courts have rarely had occasion to answer: what does it take to leave a partnership when nobody signed anything saying so? After a five-day bench trial, the court agreed with the defense that his departure had ended his claim to future profits, and entered judgment for our clients on every count. The ruling now gives Connecticut practitioners guidance in an area that had almost none.
